Extensive Lama Chöpa/Guru Puja

To celebrate the Tibetan New Year (the Year of the Wood Dragon), we meet to recite together the extensive version of Lama Chöpa, known as Lama Chöpa Jorchö. This comprehensive practice integrates the vital points of both sutra and tantra as found in Lama Chöpa with the practices in Jorchö that prepare our minds to generate realizations on the path to enlightenment. The tradition of combining Lama Chöpa with Jorchö comes from Pabongkha Rinpoche (1878-1941) from Sera Monastery and the author of Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand.

The word "puja" means "to please" and has the connotation to please through offerings and practice. The Lama Chöpa/Guru Puja lays the whole path to enlightenment on our mindstream, connects us more strongly to our teachers, allows us to accumulate skies of merit and purifies eons of negative karma. The main idea is to recite the practice together and meditate on the meaning.

If you wish, you can make offerings in your own home on your altar or bring offerings to the center. If you know how to make offerings more elaborately, or according to the Lama Chöpa practice, you can do that. Otherwise you can keep it simple and make any offerings large or small. Offerings are substances that are pleasing to the senses and that we like, such as flowers, incense, fruit, cookies, and so forth.

This is the Lama Chopa Jorcho text we will be using.

We hope you can join us for this very special practice which is only done as a group once a year! There will be a traditional tea and sweet rice ceremony along with lunch made by Geshe Tenley afterwards. If you would like to bring a vegetarian salad, that would be most welcome!
