Program

Kurukulla Center offers a variety of classes and workshops suitable for all levels of students. Our teachings are in the tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, the tradition followed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Yeshe and Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche.

Geshe Tsulga, our resident lama, teaches intermediate & advanced level classes twice weekly. Highly qualified Western teachers teach entry-level classes at regular intervals. We also offer traditional Buddhist practices and pujas several times a month, weekend workshops and retreats, and special events.

Classes are open to everyone, regardless of one's background or experience. However, we are happy to direct prospective students to the courses most suitable.

Special Events

In the fall of 2005, we are fortunate to host Khensur Jampa Tegchok as part of his tour of the United States. Geshe-la studied at Sera Je Monastic University in Tibet before fleeing to India in 1959. He taught at Nalanda Monastery in France for ten years and in 1993 His Holiness the Dalai Lama appointed him abbot of Sera Je Monastery in India. Very skilled at teaching westerners, Geshe-la will teach on mind-training or lojong.

Since opening our center, we’ve hosted many special events with great Buddhist teachers including our most special event of 2003 when His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited to bless our temple. We also hold weekend retreats, day-long workshops and tantric initiations several times during the year. We have community events such as potlucks, animal liberations and more. More...
